The Golden Arm Award, presented annually to the nation’s top upperclassman quarterback by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, honors more than athletic performance. While on-field success is essential, this award looks beyond statistics and scoreboards. It recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate character, citizenship, integrity, and respect for the game.

“The winner of the Golden Arm Award is recognized not only for his athletic accomplishments, but also for his character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities, and athletic abilities,” says John Unitas Jr., President of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation. “These qualities represent what college football should stand for.”

The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award proudly carries the name of a man many consider the greatest quarterback in football history, one whose legacy extends far beyond wins and records.

In addition to honoring outstanding collegiate quarterbacks, the Foundation remains deeply committed to supporting the next generation of leaders. To date, more than $750,000 in scholarships have been awarded to deserving scholar-athletes from local high schools in Maryland and Kentucky, helping students pursue both academic and athletic success.
